What we cook

  • Green chile breakfast burrito

    Scrambled eggs, crisp potatoes, jack cheese and roasted green chile, wrapped tight enough to eat on the walk down to the water.

  • Avocado toast with a soft egg

    Thick sourdough, smashed avocado, a jammy egg, chile flakes and a squeeze of lemon over the top.

  • Buttermilk pancakes

    Three of them, cooked to order, with butter melting into the top one and warm syrup on the side.

  • The counter scramble

    Eggs, bacon, spinach and sharp cheddar, with home fries and toast. The plate most of the regulars order without looking.

  • Turkey and havarti melt

    Roasted turkey, havarti, tomato and grain mustard, pressed on rye until the cheese runs down the side.

  • Coffee, hot or over ice

    Ground when you order it, poured into a heavy mug or a cup for the road. Refills happen without you asking.

A counter, eleven stools, and one cook at a time

Blue Awning is small on purpose. Kate cooks most mornings and knows what half the room orders before they sit down. Nothing is held under a lamp — the potatoes go in the pan when you ask for them, the eggs are cracked to order, and if the kitchen is slammed we will tell you so rather than rush your plate. Come in, take a stool, and let the coffee catch up with you.
