A full walk-through, a plan drawn for your sun and soil, and a build that turns a tired yard into one that holds up here.
We start by walking the property with you, noting where the sun bakes hardest, where water sits after a rain, and what's already struggling. From there we draw a planting and layout plan suited to Santee's heat and clay, then build it out in stages so the yard is never torn up all at once.
02
02Drought-tolerant planting
Natives and Mediterranean species chosen for this valley's heat, so the color stays through August instead of burning off by June.
Turf lawns struggle in Santee's heat without heavy watering; drought-tolerant beds don't. We choose plants suited to the local sun and clay soil — natives, Mediterranean species, things that bloom on their own schedule — and group them by water need so nothing gets over- or under-watered.
03
03Irrigation & drip conversion
Sprinkler heads swapped for drip lines that water roots instead of pavement, cutting runoff and the monthly bill.
Spray irrigation loses a lot of water to wind and pavement before it ever reaches a root. We convert beds to drip lines run on their own zones and timers, so shrubs, natives, and any remaining lawn each get what they actually need instead of one blanket schedule for everything.
04
04Hardscape & pathways
Pavers, gravel paths, and low retaining walls set to handle Santee's clay soil without shifting after the first wet winter.
Clay soil moves when it gets wet, and hardscape that isn't set for it cracks or heaves within a year or two. We prep a proper base before any paver or path goes down, and grade for drainage so water moves away from the house instead of pooling against it.
05
05Tree & shrub care
Pruning and shaping timed to how each species grows here, not a once-a-year buzz cut.
A tree or shrub pruned at the wrong time of year sets itself back instead of ahead. We time cuts to how each species actually grows in this climate, shape for structure rather than just size, and clear out dead or crossing branches before they become a bigger problem.
06
06Clean-ups & hauling
Overgrowth, dead plants, and yard debris cleared and hauled off so the space is ready to replant or just breathe again.
Sometimes a yard needs to be cleared before anything else makes sense — dead shrubs pulled, overgrowth cut back, debris hauled away. We leave the space bare and ready, whether that means a new bed goes in next or the yard just gets to sit clean for a while.

We plant for the yard you actually have
Santee sits in its own pocket of heat, and a yard here either works with that or fights it every summer. Best Lay Turf designs and builds yards around what actually holds up in this valley — plants that don't sulk in August, irrigation that doesn't run when it shouldn't, hardscape that doesn't crack the first hot season. We walk the property before we draw anything, note where the sun sits at 3pm and where the water pools, and build from there. The plan changes yard to yard; the discipline doesn't.

How an install works, start to finish
01
Measure the area together
Point at where you want turf and how the space gets used — kids, dogs, a patio edge.
02
Agree the scope and the price
Removing what's there, base prep, drainage, the turf and the infill — settled before any digging.
03
The install gets done
On the day you set, the way you agreed. Weather can move a date; it shouldn't move the price.
04
Walk it before they leave
Check the seams and the edges while the crew is still there.
Before you hire an installer
Four flags worth knowing — whoever you call
Ask these of anyone bidding your yard — us included. A good answer costs nothing.
01
The base is the job
Turf lasts as long as what's under it. Ask how deep the base goes and how it's compacted.
02
Ask about drainage
Rain and pets need somewhere to go. Ask how water drains through the turf and away.
03
Ask about heat
Synthetic turf gets hot in full sun. Ask about infills and products that run cooler.
04
Get the warranty in writing
Ask what's covered — the turf itself and the installation — and for how long.
01
Walk before we plan
We walk the property and note sun, soil, and drainage before drawing any plan.
02
Right plant, right zone
Plants are grouped by water need so irrigation never treats the whole yard the same way.
03
Staged, not all at once
Larger redesigns are built in stages so the yard isn't torn up in one go.
01Will drought-tolerant planting mean an empty-looking yard?
No — the goal is a yard that still has color and shape, just built from species suited to this heat. Natives and Mediterranean plants bloom on their own calendar, and a good layout keeps something interesting going through most of the year.
02Do you work with the irrigation that's already there?
Usually yes. Most yards have existing lines we can convert zone by zone to drip rather than tearing everything out, which keeps the cost and disruption lower while still fixing where the water actually goes.
03How does scheduling work for a quote?
Call and we'll set a time to walk the yard together, look at the soil and sun exposure, and talk through what you want out of the space before anything gets drawn up.

Before you decide
Do I actually own the site?+
Yes. You own your site and your domain. Cancel anytime, keep everything. If you ever leave, we hand it all over, free. That's the deal in one sentence, and it's printed at checkout too.
Can I get my money back?+
On the $0-today plan there's nothing to get back at first: nothing is charged for 30 days, so cancel before then and you pay nothing. After that you can cancel anytime; a month already billed isn't refunded. If you paid $299 to launch instead, that $299 is refundable for 30 days, no questions asked.
What's the monthly fee for?+
It's $59 a month (or $49 if you paid $299 to launch), and it covers hosting, security, and unlimited edits to the pages you have: a new phone number, new prices, new photos, new wording. Email us and we make the change, with no hourly billing. New pages, like a page for another town you serve, are optional add-ons, and you see the price before you buy.
How did you get my information?+
From public records and your public Google listing. The records are your state contractor license (the CSLB publishes it), your city or county business registry, and Overture Maps, an openly licensed map dataset. Your Google listing gives us things like your hours, photos, rating and reviews; ratings and reviews appear as they do on Google, with attribution, never edited or invented. The words on the site are ours, written from those facts, so tell us anything we got wrong and we fix it. Your email came from a business-data company we pay; we don't run software that scrapes websites for addresses. We've never sold or shared the list, and we're not going to.
