Yard cleanups

A full look at your existing plantings and irrigation, with a plan to replace what's thirsty and fix what's wasting water.

We start by walking the yard with you and noting what's stressed, what's overwatered, and what's simply the wrong plant for this soil and sun. From there we build a phased plan — often planting first, irrigation second — so the yard keeps looking lived-in while the work happens instead of sitting torn up.

Drought-tolerant planting

Plants matched to Santee's heat and dry summers — natives and Mediterranean varieties that don't need daily water to hold their shape.

We choose plants based on how much sun and water your specific yard gets, not a generic palette. That usually means natives and Mediterranean species that go dormant or slow down in the driest months instead of browning out, paired with mulch and soil work that keeps roots cooler underground.

Irrigation & drip conversion

Converting spray heads to drip lines so water goes to roots instead of the driveway, with a controller that matches the season.

Old spray systems lose a lot of water to overspray, wind, and runoff. We convert beds to drip line, run it to the base of each plant, and set the controller to match the season instead of running a fixed schedule year-round. You see fewer wet sidewalks and a system that's easier to spot-fix when something clogs.

Hardscape & pathways

Pavers, decomposed granite, and stepping paths that hold up to foot traffic and drain properly after a rare San Diego downpour.

A path or patio has to handle both dry-season foot traffic and the occasional heavy rain we do get. We grade the base so water sheds away from the house, then set pavers or decomposed granite depending on the look and the budget. It's the bones of the yard the plants get to lean on.

Tree & shrub care

Pruning, shaping, and health checks for established trees and shrubs so they keep their structure through dry summers.

Established trees and shrubs need less water than people assume, but they do need pruning to keep weight balanced and dead wood removed before it becomes a hazard. We shape for the plant's natural form and check for stress signs that usually trace back to irrigation, not the plant itself.

Clean-ups & hauling

Overgrowth, dead plants, and yard debris cleared out and hauled away so the space is ready for new planting or just breathing room.

Before any redesign, a yard often needs to be cleared — dead shrubs pulled, overgrown beds cut back, debris hauled off site. We do this as its own job too, for anyone who just wants the space usable again without committing to a full redesign yet.

We plant for the climate you actually have

Rain Water Systems is a licensed contractor (California license #742101) working yards around Santee and East County. Most calls start the same way: a lawn that's fighting the heat, a drip line that's leaking somewhere underground, a corner nobody's touched since it was planted. We walk the property, point at what's working and what isn't, and build a plan around plants suited to this climate and irrigation that doesn't waste water finding its way to them. The work is ongoing by nature — a yard is a living system, not a one-time install.

How a job runs, start to finish

  • Walk the yard together

Point at what you want changed. Ten minutes outside beats an hour of description.

  • Agree the scope and the price

What's included, what gets hauled away, what it costs — settled before tools come off the truck.

  • The work gets done

On the day you set, the way you agreed. Weather can move a date; it shouldn't move the price.

  • Walk it again before they leave

The cleanup is part of the job. Say so while the crew is still there.

Before you hire anyone

Four flags worth knowing — whoever you call

Ask these of anyone bidding your job — us included. A good answer costs nothing; a bad one saves you the whole mistake.

  • A price before anyone's seen the job

Real quotes come after eyes on the work. A number over the phone is a number that changes.

  • Nothing in writing

Scope, price, and who buys materials — settled before work starts, on paper or in a text thread.

  • Pressure to start today

Good operators are booked. Same-hour availability with a discount attached is its own answer.

  • No paper trail on payment

However you pay, there should be a record of what was agreed and what was done.

  • Walk the yard first

Every plan starts with an in-person walk of the property before anything is designed or quoted.

  • Plants matched to place

We select species based on your yard's actual sun, soil, and water access, not a fixed plant list.

  • Water to the root

Irrigation work is converted to drip and zoned by plant need wherever the layout allows it.

  • Do you only work with drought-tolerant plants?

That's a large part of what we recommend for this climate, but we design around what a specific yard and homeowner want. We'll tell you honestly which plants will struggle here and which ones are a better fit for the sun and water you have.

  • How do you handle an existing irrigation system?

We inspect what's there first — often a mix of old spray heads and buried lines — and figure out what can convert to drip versus what needs replacing. The goal is water reaching roots instead of pavement, without redoing more than necessary.

  • How does scheduling work for a project?

After the initial walk-through, we scope the work into phases if needed and give you a plan before anything starts. Call and we'll talk through what your yard needs and figure out next steps from there.

Can I get my money back?

Yes. The $299 launch fee is refundable for 30 days, no questions asked, and the $49 a month can be cancelled at any time.

What's the $49 a month for?

Hosting, security, and unlimited edits to the pages you have: a new phone number, new prices, new photos, new wording. Email us and we make the change, with no hourly billing. New pages, like a page for another town you serve, are optional add-ons, and you see the price before you buy.

How did you get my information?

From public records and your public Google listing. The records are your state contractor license (the CSLB publishes it), your city or county business registry, and Overture Maps, an openly licensed map dataset. Your Google listing gives us things like your hours, photos, rating and reviews; ratings and reviews appear as they do on Google, with attribution, never edited or invented. The words on the site are ours, written from those facts, so tell us anything we got wrong and we fix it. Your email came from a business-data company we pay; we don't run software that scrapes websites for addresses. We've never sold or shared the list, and we're not going to.
