Design, planting, and irrigation built around drought, sun, and the plants that actually thrive here — not a lawn that fights the climate every August.

01
01Landscape design
A full design for your front or back yard, built around your site's sun, slope, and soil before anything gets planted.
This is where every project starts: a walk of the property, notes on sun exposure, drainage, and existing plantings, then a detailed plan you can hand to a landscaper, pool contractor, or hardscape crew. It's the document that keeps everyone building toward the same yard instead of improvising around each other.

02Drought-tolerant planting
Plant palettes chosen for San Diego's dry season — natives and Mediterranean species that hold color without a heavy water bill.
San Diego's climate rewards the right plant list, not the biggest one. We select natives and drought-tolerant species suited to the specific microclimate of your yard — full sun against a stucco wall reads differently than a shaded north-facing bed — and place them so they fill in rather than compete.
03
03Irrigation & drip conversion
Converting spray heads and thirsty lawn zones to drip lines that put water at the root, not on the sidewalk.
Old spray systems waste water on hardscape and shallow-root the lawn they're supposed to help. Converting a bed to drip puts water directly at the root zone, which suits the drought-tolerant plantings that replace turf and cuts down on runoff you can watch happen.
04
04Hardscape & pathways
Flagstone paths, patios, and stone work planned alongside the planting so materials and beds read as one design.
Stone and planting are planned together, not sequenced as an afterthought. A flagstone path or patio gets laid out with the beds around it in mind — sightlines, drainage, and where a stone fireplace or seating area anchors the space — so the hardscape and the garden feel like one plan.
05
05Garden design & build
From bare dirt or an overgrown bed to a coordinated garden, designed first and installed to that plan.
Whether the starting point is a blank slope or a yard that's outgrown itself, the process is design first: a plan for beds, paths, and focal points, coordinated with any other contractors on site, then installation that follows the drawing rather than guessing in the field.
06
06Tree & shrub care
Pruning and shaping suited to how a tree or shrub will fill out over the seasons, not just a quick trim.
Shrubs and trees get shaped with their mature form in mind — where a canopy will eventually sit, how a hedge line reads from the street — so pruning supports the long-term design instead of just cutting back growth for the moment.

A plan drawn before a single plant goes in the ground
Sage Outdoor Designs starts with a detailed plan, not a truckload of plants. Kate, the designer behind the work, walks the yard, notes the sun, the slope, the soil, and what's already surviving there, then draws a plan that coordinates with any pool or hardscape contractor before installation begins. Clients have described her as responsive and knowledgeable, with a design that made working alongside other contractors easier, not harder. The result is a yard that was considered before it was planted — front, back, or both.

01
Design before dirt
A written plan is drawn for the site before any planting or installation begins.
02
One plan, many contractors
Designs are built to coordinate with pool, hardscape, and landscape crews working the same yard.
03
Plants matched to place
Species are chosen based on the specific sun, slope, and soil of your yard, not a standard list.
01Do you handle the whole project, or just the design?
The plan comes first, drawn for your specific yard. From there, Kate makes recommendations for landscapers and contractors and coordinates the design with any pool or hardscape work already underway, so the plan and the build stay aligned.
02Will drought-tolerant planting still look full and green?
Yes — drought-tolerant doesn't mean sparse. The plan selects species suited to San Diego's dry season that fill in and hold color, arranged so beds read as lush rather than bare gravel and a few succulents.
03How does the process start?
It starts with a walk of your property to look at sun, slope, and what's already growing, followed by a detailed design plan for the space. From there the plan guides installation and any other contractors involved.

How did you get my information?+
From public records and your public Google listing. The records are your state contractor license (the CSLB publishes it), your city or county business registry, and Overture Maps, an openly licensed map dataset. Your Google listing gives us things like your hours, photos, rating and reviews; ratings and reviews appear as they do on Google, with attribution, never edited or invented. The words on the site are ours, written from those facts, so tell us anything we got wrong and we fix it. Your email came from a business-data company we pay; we don't run software that scrapes websites for addresses. We've never sold or shared the list, and we're not going to.
